Funding for battery storage and commercial PV
For batteries and solar PV in businesses there are subsidised loans, state grants and tax depreciation. Which of them fit depends on location, company size and sector. Listed here are the programmes that, according to our review, are currently open to commercial and industrial businesses.
As of 14 October 2026. Funding programmes change often; only the conditions set by the funding body on the day of your application are decisive.
Apply first, then place the order
Almost all programmes require the application to have been submitted – and for grants usually also the funding body’s acknowledgement of receipt – before you sign a supply or service contract, place an order or make a down payment. Ordering too early can rule out funding.
Load profile analysis, design and quotation are not affected. You can review everything at your own pace and place the order only after applying; we align quotation and order with your funding application.
Nationwide
KfW
KfW programme 270 “Renewable Energies – Standard” (subsidised loan)
- What for
- PV systems and battery storage, including a stand-alone battery or a retrofit, plus metering and control equipment.
- Who for
- Companies of any size.
- What to watch
- Loan via your house bank or savings bank. The application must be submitted before you sign a supply or service contract.
BAFA
Industrial electricity price relief
- What for
- Electricity price relief for energy-intensive sectors in 2026 to 2028. At least half of the relief must be invested in decarbonisation; a battery against load peaks or a new PV system can count towards this.
- Who for
- Only consumption points in the sectors on the EU list (CEEAG, sub-list 1), such as steel, aluminium, copper, foundries, chemicals, paper and glass. The classification under the German WZ 2008 sector codes is decisive; according to our review, the recovery of sorted materials (WZ 38.32) is not on the list.
- What to watch
- No other state aid may flow to the measure counted, and a PV system may not receive EEG feed-in support. The measure only counts from the start of the respective settlement year.
Income and corporation tax
Depreciation
- What for
- For movable assets acquired between 1 July 2025 and 31 December 2027, declining-balance depreciation is available again (Section 7(2) of the German Income Tax Act, EStG). Smaller businesses can additionally use the investment deduction and special depreciation under Section 7g EStG.
- Who for
- Tax-liable businesses; Section 7g EStG only up to a profit threshold.
- What to watch
- Whether and how the battery and PV system are depreciated in your business is a matter for your tax adviser.
BAFA
Energy and resource efficiency in business
- What for
- Grant for efficiency and electrification projects. A battery can be co-funded as an ancillary cost if it increases the share of self-generated power; the PV system itself is excluded.
- Who for
- Companies; depending on the module, only SMEs or all sizes.
- What to watch
- Not a programme for a battery on its own: it has to be part of a measure with proven CO₂ savings, such as converting a process to electricity. Apply before the project starts.

How we support your application
01
Analyse the data
Load profile, electricity bill and roof: from these, design and costs. This does not affect the funding.
02
Prepare the quotation
Items split into battery, energy management and PV, as funding bodies and banks need them.
03
You apply
With your house bank or the funding body, with your tax or funding adviser if you wish. We supply the technical details.
04
Then place the order
Only once the application has been submitted and, where required, the acknowledgement of receipt is in hand.
Please note
This overview is not legal, tax or funding advice. Whether and to what extent a project is funded is decided solely by the funding body; as a rule there is no legal entitlement. You submit applications yourself or through your bank. As of 14 October 2026.
