Your wind farm or biogas plant has something new projects often search for a long time: an existing grid connection. When the EEG support ends, this connection can do more. We are looking for sites with a grid connection for containers, battery storage and/or a data centre, right at your farm.

When the EEG support ends
Support under the German Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) runs for 20 years plus the year of commissioning. For a plant commissioned in 2006, it ends on 31 December 2026. For many wind and biogas plants commissioned between 2004 and 2008, support therefore ends between the end of 2024 and the end of 2028; older plants are already out.
After that, you only receive what your power earns on the market. As a rule, you then sell it through “other direct marketing” (§ 21a EEG), with all the swings of the power price.
The idea: supply power on site instead of only feeding it in
We are looking for sites with a grid connection for containers, battery storage and/or a data centre, right at your farm, behind the grid connection point. The power can then be supplied on site instead of only going into the grid at market value (§ 21b(4) no. 2 EEG).

Battery storage
Battery storage at an existing wind farm or biogas plant is privileged under planning law in undesignated outer areas (§ 35(1) no. 11 BauGB). That is why storage is usually the quickest to implement.
Data centre
If the site, grid and municipality fit, a container data centre that uses the power directly on site is also an option.
Optional solar PV
A PV system can share the same grid connection if land and planning law allow it.
Why this works
- On-site supply – Plant operators may pass on power in full or in part to third parties who consume it in the immediate vicinity of the plant, provided the power is not transmitted through a grid (§ 21b(4) no. 2 EEG). The only exception is the feed-in tariff for small plants of up to 100 kW whose original support has ended; onshore wind is not one of them.
- One grid connection for several – The grid operator and the plant operator may agree a connection-side limit on the active power fed in, which the operator ensures with suitable technology such as a park controller; the permitted feed-in capacity is set by the grid operator. The law expressly covers the case where plants or storage systems of other operators are connected at the same grid connection point; their consent is then required (§ 8a EEG, flexible grid connection agreement). There is no entitlement to such an agreement.
- Storage in outer areas – Battery storage at an existing wind farm or biogas plant is privileged under planning law in undesignated outer areas (§ 35(1) no. 11 of the German Federal Building Code, BauGB, since 23 December 2025): the law requires a spatial and functional link to an existing renewable energy plant. That is why storage is usually the quickest to implement.
- Data centre – A data centre is not one of the privileged projects. In practice, a development plan is needed in outer areas. We clarify this together with the municipality.
- Solar PV at the same connection – Whether a PV system can share the grid connection depends on land, planning law and the grid operator. We check this on site.
Note: These provisions set the framework. Whether it works for your site depends on the grid operator, your contract with the direct marketer, land ownership and the municipality. We check this for each site individually. Legal status October 2026: changes to the EEG and grid connection law are planned in the Bundestag but not yet adopted; we check the current status before every project.

Call with your plant data
15 minutes on the phone. After that we need your plant data: unit number in the market master data register (MaStR), capacity, commissioning date, grid connection and your contract with the direct marketer.

Together we define what the cooperation looks like: use of the land, supply of the power and rules for the shared grid connection.

Frequently asked questions from wind and biogas operators
Do I have to change my direct marketer?
Not necessarily. The EEG allows power to be passed on in part to third parties on site (§ 21b(4) no. 2 EEG); you continue to market the rest. Whether your contract with the direct marketer says anything about this, for example on volumes or schedules, we clarify in a conversation based on your contract.
What happens to the rest of the power?
It continues to be fed into the grid and marketed as before. Only the share that the container takes up is supplied on site.
Do we need a permit?
Battery storage at an existing wind farm or biogas plant is privileged under planning law in outer areas (§ 35(1) no. 11 BauGB). It is permissible if public interests do not stand in the way and access and utilities are secured; we prepare the building permit procedure under state law. In practice, a data centre needs a development plan, which we pursue together with the municipality.
Which documents do you need for a first call?
To start, the unit number in the market master data register, the capacity and commissioning date of your plants, the details of your grid connection and the term of your contract with the direct marketer are enough. We clarify everything else in the call.
What if we repower the farm later?
In practice, a container can be relocated. How repowering, continued operation or decommissioning of your plants is taken into account, we agree together.
